The Long-Suffering Listeners
What does it mean to be British? It’s a simple question with many answers and one that’s seems more relevant than ever. I think a good example of a very British statement came from Radio 2’s Ken Bruce. His show has just taken over as the UK’s most popular radio programme. If this was America, imagine the gushing, weeping thank-yous that would have prompted. Instead, Ken replied said: “After 34 years as a part of the BBC Radio 2 family, I’m astounded that the allure of my daily grumpy musings, coupled with PopMaster, continue to entertain. Many thanks to the long-suffering listeners”. Nice one, Ken.
