RELEASE DATE: 14th September 2017

At The Movies celebrates five decades of Hollywood classics, including Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Love Actually, Toy Story, Saturday Night Fever and Jungle Book. Dipping into jazz, bossa nova, pop and swing there are four lesser known gems from Elvis Presley movies and original takes on standards from Joni Mitchell, Fred Astaire and The Bee Gees.

Hot on the heels of last year’s Christmas album Big Band Wonderland, it features some of the UK’s finest musicians, including British Jazz Award winner Nigel Price (Best Guitarist 2016) and Graeme Blevins (sax); with 15 original arrangements from Phil Steel, Paul Campbell and New York’s Caleb Collins.

Marking a departure for Gary, who made his name singing the songs of Frank Sinatra, you’ll hear hints of Michael Franks, Nora Jones and Michael Bublé on this contemporary classic.

Reviews

“This selection of movie tunes sung with Sinatra-esque flair, will transport you down memory lane and get your serotonin levels soaring.” London Evening Standard

“simply a celebration of great music from a selection of wonderful movies” SoulFunkand Jazz.com

“I just love Gary’s delivery on Both Sides Now – the finest example of natural, unaffected delivery. Fantastic.” VoiceCouncil Magazine

“How terrific is that album? What a great sound!” Marty Whelan, RTE LyricFM Album of the Week

“One of this country’s most loved big band singers.” Clare Teal BBC Radio 2

“It’s always good news when Gary Williams makes a new album… His singing is so relaxed that he makes you believe you can sing as well as him. Believe me you can’t, I’ve tried.” Don Black, Academy Award Winning lyricist

“This is an eclectic collection, but Williams has found a way to make it all work. He has a smooth baritone that is easily accessible, and the ability to bring out the best in each song. A one-word review would be – delightful!” Joe Lang, Jersey Jazz USA

“This is music to play late at night when you’re alone on the sofa with your love and the lights are low. In our raucous “in your face” age it is a delight to hear more gentle music – great songs elegantly sung with great sincerity but no sentimentality. To sing ‘Home Is Where The Heart Is’ and make it sound rather more than the soppy ballad it usually is is quite an achievement!” Paddy Briggs”This is one of those perfect, easy-listening albums, excellent for relaxing to after a day at work, or serving as background music at a dinner party.” Cabaret Scene’s Magazine

“He has such a beautiful voice – just like black velvet and, although the style is not completely to my liking (jazz-orientated) there is something about his voice that is completely mesmerising.” Musical Theatre Review

“It is superb! The arrangements are glorious. It’s like you’ve got Ted Heath working with you on some tracks. Thank you for this really lovely piece of proper grown up music. Bravo.” Stephen Duffy, BBC Radio Scotland

“The phrase ‘song stylist’ has been bandied about for decades and while the ones who’ve really mastered this craft are few and far between, in Gary Williams, we have a song stylist for today.” Alan Boyd, Music Producer, BBC Radio 2

“What impresses me, among so many other things, is your tireless work ethic and constant reaching for something new and fresh that will expand the field of this music. It’s a great lesson for me and makes my boundless admiration for you bound somewhere further.” Michael Feinstein
