Sister Act – The Musical

sister-act1It’s not everyday you see nuns abseiling down the front of the London Palladium, Whoopie Goldberg making a stage appearance and Andrew Lloyd Webber leaving his seat early to (I presume) be the first at the bar, but this was no ordinary night. I’ve just got in from the premiere of Sister Act and what a fantastic show! Of course, a kick line of singing nuns is always going to get a laugh, but there were so many great moments in the show and the audience lovely every minute. Sheila Hancock is such a superb actor with great comic timing, and from the States Pattina Miller as the lead is divinely cast. The ensemble is tight and note perfect and it was nice to see the lovely Vanessa Bermby from the Rat Pack in there too. Not forgetting the huge moving set, which was worthy of an ovation on it’s own.

Good to see some mates from the pit in the bar afterwards including Mike Lovatt and Howard McGill. It’s the best new show I have seen in the West End for years so i think their jobs are safe for a while.
